1883 Challenge Entry
The layout is 10 feet by 18 inches, on 3 baseboards, designed to fit in my study and be carried in an average sized car, with baseboards legs, controls and rolling stock. This layout has been designed using the TRAX computer programme which is supplied with the book “Wiring The Layout” by Jeff Geary, published by KRB Publishing.
In operating mode four track feeds are controlled by levers 1,2, 10 & 11 on the ends of the panel, while the two signals control the routing of power when trains run to or from the fiddle yard.
The fiddle yard is behind the warehouse, and the control panel, on a flexible lead, hangs beneath the baseboards. Operation can be from either side of the layout There will be potential for two backscenes, one for each side as required.
Originally built as the Coombe Wharf Tramway, the line has recently been taken on by the LB&SCR, so both industrial locomotives and Stroudley and Billinton designs may be seen. The branch is worked as One Engine In Steam, the only signals control a level crossing not included on this display.
Other features not finally fixed are a wagon turntable, timber derrick, mobile steam crane, and tidal effect at the quay. 24 August 2003
