Devon Riviera Area Group (DRAG)

The Devon Riviera Area Group meets twice per month on Monday evenings, at Holcombe Village Hall between Teignmouth and Dawlish. Catchment area is basically Devon from Plymouth to Exeter, and south of Dartmoor.

Membership currently stands at 21 and attendances of around a dozen people are normal. Most focus is currently on completing and playing with a modular test circuit (TT2) which features four P4 tracks with minimum 5 ft radius curves, transitions, superelevation, some P&C, and full DC/DCC capability. There is also an 00 circuit for testing RTR stock. This has all enabled members to develop their woodworking, tracklaying, wiring and troubleshooting skills as suits their preference and provides a running-in facility for old and new stock alike - and a lot of fun. Members also bring their current projects along to work on or just to have a chat.

Now that TT2 is nearly finished (is anything ever finished?) some of the group are also working on the rehabilitation and extension of a P4 layout of Bodmin (not the NLG one, another one) acquired from the late Mike Casey's family. Ours is named Bodmin General and will be set around 1960. New baseboards have been built and new trackwork laid as appropriate, including the full Y-junction beyond the station.

We are also embarking on a more structured programme of demonstration evenings in amongst the TT2 sessions.

Mass invasions of DRAG members as visitors, exhibitors or demonstrators to Scaleforum and RailWells are routine and other shows are visited or exhibited at - several individual members also have their own layouts in various stages of development.

If you are interested in coming along or would like more information or help on any aspect of the group, the Scalefour Society or P4 modelling, please contact Rod Cameron on riviera@scalefour.org
